 My Top Ten Favorite Photographers

 

1. Eliot Porter 


Born December 6, 1901, Dead November 2, 1990 (Age 88)


Eliot Porter went to Med school to become a doctor, but later on, his older brother showed him photography. He began to take wildlife pictures, with his main focus being birds. He even has a book published in 1953 showing off the photos of birds from around America.

2. Mario Testino 

Born October 30, 1954 (Age 67)

Mario Testino is a world-famous photographer who has taken photos of musicians, actors/actresses, artists, and supermodels. He has had up to 16 books published with his pictures and has even had his photographs featured in large magazines. He has also taken pictures of royal family members such as Princess Diana of Wales.

3. Henri-Carter Bresson 

           Born August 22, 1908, Dead August 3, 2004 (Age 95) 


He was initially a painter in France. However, in 1930 he moved over to photography and focused on surrealism. He likes to take pictures of people without them knowing because this would give the images a more realistic feeling. So to achieve this, he painted his camera black so it wouldn't catch the light or people's eyes.

4. Annie Leibovitz 

Born October 2, 1949 (Age 72 )

She is an American photographer best known for her portraits of famous people. She is best known for being one of the last people to photograph John Lennon; because of this, the photo was used in Rolling Stone and was praised as one of the best picture headings. She is also one of the only women to be added to the Washington National Portail Gallery

5. Ansel Adams 
Born February 20, 1902, Dead April 22, 1984 (Age 82)

He was an American photographer better known for his landscaping and environmental pictures, better known for his black and white photos of the West. He was also known for making the group f/64. He was also one of many people hired by the Museum of Modern Art of New York to run their photography department.

6. Tim Walker

Born January 1, 1970 (Age 52) 

He is a British fashion photographer well known for working with Vogue and other famous fashion companies. He was also known as one of the youngest photographers to work with Vogue at twenty-five.

7. William Eggleston

Born July 27, 1939 (Age 82)
He is an American photographer known for using ordinary subjects and injecting them into his work. Eggleston was also known for being very isolated from the rest of the world. Many said that it was a surprise when they met him. He also went to school at Harvard.

8. David LaChapelle 
Born March 11, 2963 (Age 58)

He is an American photographer, music video director, and film director. He is mainly known for his fashion shoots that like to include iconic art history in modern-day fashion. He also wants to add social problems into his photographs. His style is known as hyper-real.

9. Gregory Crewdson
Born September 26, 1962 (Age 58)
He is an American photographer known for his pictures of suburban homes and the interior. He would build whole stage reenactments of the insides of the houses. He had also published lots of books covering his work.

10. Andreas Gursky 
Born January 15, 1955 (Age 67)
He is a German photographer known for his landscapes and architecture color pictures. He used high-point viewing for his photos. He is also known for being one of the higher paying photographers living today, with a worth of over 4 million dollars.
